The next time your students complain about overwork, show them the syllabus for English 135 at the University of Michigan taught by the poet, WH Auden during the 1941-1942 school year.
Over 6,000 pages of required 'light reading' including Shakespeare, Dante's "The Divine Comedy," Dostoevsky's "The Brother's Karamazov" and Melville's "Moby-Dick." And that is before you get to the 'recommended reading' list!
........Oh, and it is only a 2 credit course.
