Giving Back

Representatives of Promise House,
Cengage Learning and Teach for America

If you are what we call an 'Economist Educator', then you go above and beyond what is just required.
As an instructor you know that thanks is often hard to come by and criticism by those who 'know' all about your job without ever having done it pretty easy to find.
At the end of the day, though, you would not want to do anything else. It is a passion.

Most of us who create educational materials feel the same way. Providing the best tools to help instructors advance their craft and students to learn the things that will make them better in many aspects of their lives is a mission, and one we are so grateful for.

Cengage Learning has always forged strong relationships in communities where we operate, but in the past 4 years we have 'upped our game' with the Cengage Cares program. We choose a local charity in the city where we are holding our annual meeting that year and pull out all the stops to raise money from our employees through an early morning exercise event we call 'Rise and Shine'. Those donations are then matched by Cengage Learning.  This year we provided $50,000 to Promise House of Dallas which helps homeless teens and $50,000 for Teach for America which places some of the brightest new teachers in some of the neediest schools in the country. In the past 4 years we have raised over $400,000 dollars for local organizations and Teach for America.

Sometimes you just have to step back, realize how blessed we are to get to do what we do and give back. I think it is an attitude of gratitude that makes for great educators and great partners.

Here is a clip from the local morning news in Dallas about our Rise and Shine event this past week.
Here also is a video from last year's event in Las Vegas.
