I am an instructor at the Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, NC. Math skills can be a barrier to student success in our Principles of Micro and Macroeconomics courses. We currently do not screen students using placement exams or a Math course prerequisite. We are considering restricting enrollment.
This is a request for your participation in a brief survey on math requirements for economics courses. Does your college screen? What type of screening is used? How do you address the gaps in math skills presented by your students once they are enrolled in your class? Do you believe screening improves learning outcomes overall or detracts from learning opportunities?
